How many times have you had a plan go totally as you expected it to – no variations, no need to have to flex out of what you would do, how you would do it? If so, please share with all of us! Was it the starts aligning or do you have the magic formula?
If the past has taught us anything about planning, it’s that flexibility isn’t just helpful—it’s ESSENTIAL. No matter how detailed your plans are, life with throw you curve balls. But here’s the real magic: flexibility doesn’t weaken a plan; it strengthens it. If you can learn to embrace the unexpected, however annoying it may be in the moment, things can still keep moving forward.
Here are some ways to reframe:
✨Progress Over Perfection - We often feel that sticking rigidly to a plan is a sign of commitment, but sometimes its a missed opportunity for growth. Adaptable planning means focusing on getting things done, not always perfection. View it as a guide, not a strict set of rules. The more you embrace adjustments, the more you will feel motivated to continue.
✨Build Buffer Time Into Your Plans - No one enjoys the mad dash challenges arise. Giving yourself breathing space allows for flex when needed. Whether it’s adding cushion time between steps to be done or recognising where you have other pinch periods coming up. Being mindful of your capacity sets you up for success.
✨Recognise When to Pivot - Not all changes are setbacks - some open doors to better options you may not have thought about when you originally started. If something isn’t working, reflect and reassess. Maybe you need to do it differently. Recognising when to pivot isn’t about abandoning your what you are trying to do; it’s about retuning how you might get there.
✨Strength in Adaptability - Your ducks will not always be in a row, but that’s what makes it rewarding. Don’t create a plan that is so rigid that it becomes a stick you are beating yourself with. Dance your way through it and embrace planning as an ongoing journey rather than a fixed destination.
Enjoy the party!
