Did you set yourself some goals for 2025? Have you been able to stick to these or has it been a struggle?

Goals are great for creating direction but can feel hard to meet as they don’t immediately translate into actionable steps. I hear folks say, ‘my resolution for this year is to be more organised’. Whilst that is great, what does it look like and how will you do it?

First, you need to change the view from focusing on the goal to creating habits to support you. You can’t just organise and be done with it – it’s a constant work in progress that either requires continued maintenance or adapting as your needs change – more so if you live with others (children especially)!

Break it down:

✨Adopting a habits-driven mindset involves making small, incremental changes. These micro-adjustments may seem insignificant, but over time, they accumulate to significant results.

✨Consistency is key to establishing habits. Unlike goals, which can feel overwhelming, habits are manageable and repeatable. Start with one habit at a time, when it becomes a natural behaviour then build upon it.

✨A habits-driven mindset encourages you to embrace the journey rather than fixate on the destination. This shift in perspective reduces stress and imbeds a sense of accomplishment with each small victory. Celebrate your progress, no matter how minor it may seem.

Practical Steps to Get Started

✔Identify Key Habits: What habits align with your goal allowing for the capacity you have to do them.

✔Start Small: Begin with manageable actions that you can fit into your routine.

✔Track Progress: If it doesn’t add to your load then monitor your habits and stay accountable.

✔Be Patient: Forming habits takes time. Be kind to yourself and stay committed.

By focusing on habits rather than goals, you are more likely to achieve your goals. Changes, resolutions and fresh starts are not instant, but a steady shift in direction. Stay true to your intentions and do what feels right for you.

It will feel hard, not because you are doing it wrong but more than likely because you are investing the time to do it right.
